2013 Travel Review

Thursday, January 2nd, 2014

So despite the fact that we were pretty busy with getting married last year, we still managed to fit in plenty of trips, in fact I think it was our most action packed travel year and part the reason I decided to start this blog – if we’re going to keep travelling at such a pace, it would be great to have a record of it!

The first trip of the year was to the English countryside, to celebrate our friend Nick’s birthday. A group of about 20 of us stayed in 3 lodges near Burnham on Sea in Somerset. In March, I headed off to Paris to run the Half Marathon and had my first ever ride on a Segway to see the sites.

In June, it was hen / stag party time. I spent an action packed weekend in London, drinking lots of champagne, doing  a photo scavenger hunt, decorating knickers and dancing the night away at the Piccadilly institute. Dean meanwhile headed off for a week of debauchary in Las Vegas.

July was the main event – the wedding and then two weeks in Hawaii and LA. Waikiki was a bustling lively resort with lots of bars and restaurants, Maui was a beautiful peaceful island and LA was well LA.

At the end of August, Dean spent three weeks working in Chicago. I thought I would tag along but was seriously lacking in annual leave, so I took 1.5 days off, arrived on Friday afternoon and flew back over night on Monday, heading straight to work on Tuesday morning via  shower at the airport!

In September, we took a weeks holiday with friends relaxing in the French countryside. My friend Cat’s parents own a house near Brieve, so we based ourselves there, eating good food, drinking good wine and visiting local villages. We also spent a night in Bordeaux and a night in Toulouse.

October was a trip to London with our Amsterdam friends, we drank cocktails, took a trip on the London eye, had lunch at Gordon Ramsey’s Petrus and went clubbing at the Roof Gardens in Kensington. After growing up so close to London, it’s fun now to go back as a tourist and really appreciate the city I perhaps took for granted growing up.

November saw us visiting friends in Madrid, with a day trip to Aranjuez. Our last trips of the year were taken seperately, for me a girls trip to Stockholm and for Dean a boys trip to Monaco.

So in conclusion, 5 countries visited (1 new country – Sweden) and Silver level achieved on KLM and BA!
