Since we’ve been back, a few people have asked about our favourite place on the trip so I thought I would sit down and reflect on our favourite places and experiences over the 24 weeks that we were away.
We found it difficult to book hotels for the weekend at short notice in any of the towns we fancied visiting so our last three nights before heading back to Tokyo were spent in three different hotels, with lots of train journeys in between.
We visited Nara, another former capital, as a day trip from Osaka. It’s a bit closer to Kyoto but as Nara is all about temples, we decided we needed a break between temple visiting in Kyoto and Nara.
We flew from Bangkok to Siem Reap in Cambodia. Siem Reap is the base for exploring the Angkor Wat temples. The town itself provided quite a change of pace from Bangkok. Not nearly as much car traffic but lots of mopeds and tuk tuks. All the buildings are low rise in the French colonial style. […]
